How to Stay Safe During a Transaction on MaKaBo

At Makabo, we are committed to making your hyperlocal experience trustworthy and secure — whether you’re buying a second-hand phone, hiring a local cook, renting a PG, or contacting a real estate agent.

While we verify key details like Aadhaar, FSSAI, and RERA numbers for businesses and service providers, your personal vigilance is the most important defense against fraud.

Here’s how to protect yourself during a Makabo transaction:

1. Look for Verified Profiles

Makabo works hard to verify:

  • Aadhaar details for individual service providers like drivers, maids, tutors, etc.

  • FSSAI license numbers for food vendors and home kitchens.

  • RERA registration numbers for real estate agents and property builders.

Always prefer listings with a ✅ Verified Badge. These have cleared our verification process and provide greater transparency.

💸 2. Never Pay in Advance Without Verification

Even if a listing looks legitimate:

  • Avoid full payments before meeting the person.

  • Never transfer money just to “book” a service or item unless you’ve met the seller and verified documents.

  • Don’t send payment screenshots or OTPs to strangers.

🤝 3. Meet in a Public Place or Use Video Verification

  • Meet in safe, public locations like cafes, near metro stations, or busy markets.

  • If you’re dealing with a service provider (e.g., tutor, cook, or rental agent), do a video call before meeting.

  • For rental properties, insist on a video walkthrough or in-person visit before paying a deposit.

🧾 4. Ask for ID or License Documents

Don’t hesitate to ask for:

  • Aadhaar ID (especially for personal services or high-value rentals).

  • RERA ID for real estate agents.

  • FSSAI number and registration proof for food services.

If someone refuses to share basic identification, treat it as a red flag.

🧠 5. Watch for Common Scams

Be alert for:

  • Prices that are too good to be true.

  • Urgent stories asking for money (e.g., “I’m in the army”, “My wife is in the hospital”).

  • Sellers who avoid calls, only message on WhatsApp, or ask to deal outside the platform.

Makabo never asks for payment on your behalf. If anyone claims they’re collecting money on behalf of Makabo, report them immediately.

🛠️ 6. Report Suspicious Users

If something feels off:

  • Report the listing using the “Report Abuse” button.

  • Email us at support@makabo.net with details or screenshots.

  • Block and avoid further communication with suspicious users.

We act quickly on abuse reports and ban repeat offenders.

🔒 7. Your Data Is Safe With Us

Makabo takes data security seriously. We never share your private information without your consent. Our verification steps are done securely and stored safely.

But you should still:

  • Avoid sharing OTPs or passwords with anyone.

  • Use a strong password for your Makabo account.

  • Keep personal chats and transactions within the app until you trust the other party.

🙌 Stay Safe, Stay Smart, Stay Local

Makabo is here to connect you with your neighborhood — not scammers. While we verify many details behind the scenes, your personal judgment is your best protection.

Have a safe transaction!
